Synthetic
Oil is must if you care about your car. Duh!
This is common knowledge among car people, yet I still
get at least on question a month asking whether to spend extra money
on synthetic oil. They want cheap, but are you really saving anything
if you are cutting the life of your engine in half, with no actual
savings out of pocket at all. Most manufacturers recommend twice as
many oil changes using conventional (el cheapo) oil. That means twice

Air
Conditioner System Maintenance
After about
5 years, all systems need a new AC Dryer - Accumulator, regardless
of the mileage. The AC Dryer - Accumulator is filled with material
that absorbs moisture. After many years, the absobant material becomes
saturated and no longer funtions.
Moisture is the enemy of AC systems, destroying the compressor and
causing corrosion inside the system
creating leaks.
AC systems
can be the most difficult to troubleshoot, especially if the system
has been empty of refrigerant for any length of time. For this reason,
you should never put off AC
system repair for too long as there is a point of no return, where
the cost of repair will be prohibitive.
In
the case of classic cars which use r-12 refrigerant, the retrofit
to 134a is fairly easy. The system must first be flushed with denatured
alcohol to remove all the old compressor oil. All old O-ring and
dryer - accumulator must be replaced and after 30 minutes on a vacuum
pump, the 134-a compressor oil must be
charged first, before r-134-a refrigerant.
The greatest
enemy of your AC system is corrosion brought on by moisture and
minerals in the environment. Silicone spray will help, but if you
really love your cars, don't drive them where water and salt are
present.
